Sports Administration Grad now AD
Drew Oliver, a grad of SMWW's Sports Administration Course was recently named the Athletic Coordinator for the Renton School District in Renton, Washington. Under Oliver's new title, he will be in charge of the athletic programs of three high schools.
Oliver was a teacher and high school football and wrestling coach for eight years prior to his new position and says that the Sports Administration course helped him ace the interview for the Athletic Coordinator Position. "The weekly chat taught me what to expect and how to answer questions on the fly. It was a great teaching tool." said Oliver.
Even with the eight years of experience, Oliver says that this course and its instructor, Dr. Jim Krause, introduced him to topics, such as fundraising, that he hadn't been exposed to before, "Jim always went the extra mile to help and is a big reason why I landed this position."
Dr. Jim Krause not only instructs SMWW's Sports Administration course but also recently published a book, "Guardians of the Game, A Legacy of Leadership." Guardians of the Game traces the development of college basketball using the words and deeds of those who have lived the experience - the coaches, players, sportwriters and executives and is available on Amazon.com.
