Analytics differ from sport to sport, just like each game has a different set of rules, every analytics course has a specific and different set of applications. The curriculum for this course is specific to football and includes:

As part of the course, you will speak with course mentors Aaron Schatz and Mike Tanier through weekly interactive zoom video chats and receive textbooks to assist you in engaging with your mentors, and your fellow classmates. (Your fellow classmates might be Head Coaches, Scouts, Agents, or even professional athletes. Your classmates are almost as exciting as your mentors!)

Aaron Schatz is the current Chief Analytics Officer for the FTN Network, which specializes in fantasy football, rankings, tools, projections, and data. Prior to joining FTN Network, Aaron created the website Football Outsiders and most of the original statistical methods used in that website's NFL analysis, particularly DVOA. He is the lead writer, editor, and statistician on the book series Aaron Schatz's FTN Football Almanac and writes for ESPN+ and ESPN Chalk.
During the 2011 season, he was a regular panelist on the ESPN2 show Numbers Never* Lie. Before Football Outsiders, Aaron spent five years on the radio at WBRU Providence and WKRO Daytona Beach, and three years as the writer and producer of the Lycos 50, the Internet's foremost authority on the people, places, and things that are searched online. He has written for a number of publications including The New Republic, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Slate, The American Prospect, and the Boston Phoenix.
Mike Tanier is a sports writer for the online news site, The Messenger. Previously to writing for The Messenger, Mike was the Senior Analyst for Football Outsiders. Mike has a long and storied career as a football journalist. He has been a contributor for Football Outsiders since 2005 in addition to writing for The New York Times, Pro Football Network, Bleacher Report, Sports on Earth, ESPN, Fanside, and many others. An educator and journalist, Tanier spent 17 years teaching and was Joe Flacco's senior year Calculus teacher at Audubon High School, in Haddon Twp., New Jersey. Mike will entertain students with his well-known wit and humor while making difficult concepts seem easy.

This is a great course! I have taken many statistics courses - for business and science and they can be very daunting but this course made even the most complicated football stats (and their math) easy to comprehend, apply and actually made it fun.

This course allowed me to reconnect with the spot I love in a different way than before. I work with professional athletes on a regular basis but this will help me to analyze what they do on the field more. I look forward to being able to use what I have learned during this course in the line of work I am in now. This course has made me more critically assess my preconceived assumptions about the NFL and its players and teams. Aaron and Mike are very thoughtful and penetrating in their use of analytics to explain various NFL trends, and they have taught me to investigate if data truly supports decisions and ideas that I previously took for granted.
