How to get into the racing industry?

There is a wide variety of exciting careers and career paths within motorsports outside of driving the car. If you have a passion for racing, here are some tips for landing a non-driving role in motorsports:

  1. Follow your passion! Don’t be afraid. The hardest part of getting your dream job is getting started, so the best time to start is now!
  2. Gain knowledge and training specific to your desired type of racing. You need experience, skills, and qualifications. Take the 8-week online SMWW Motorsports Management Course with Gary Ellis and Al Unser Jr. Our 8-week course is the fastest way to a job in the racing industry.
  3. Volunteer at a local race track, races, events, and motorsports organizations. Teams and companies love to see initiative being taken by the candidates and with volunteer experience on your resume, that’ll show that you’re truly driven to work in motorsports. Similarly, when you take a course like SMWW’s Motorsports Management Course, you’ll get a FREE resume redesign with your course.
  4. Research potential employers: As you gain training and experience, familiarize yourself with the motorsports entities that commonly hire professionals in your chosen field. There are blogs, message boards, and other websites that you can use as resources to learn what these companies are. Research these companies through their websites and regularly check their career pages to find any openings that relate to you. If you participate in the SMWW Motorsports Management Course you will be shipped several books that have been chosen as required reading to assist your career in the racing industry.
  5. Be persistent. Never give up! The racing industry is a competitive market for job seekers, so try not to be discouraged if your initial efforts at finding a job aren't fruitful. As you gain more experience and knowledge in your field, your chances of attracting an employer in the racing industry are more likely to improve. Focus on growing professionally and continue searching for positions that appeal to you.
  6. Network within the industry. By participating in any of our courses and conferences your entire network will explode including with your fellow classmates. Taking our Motorsports Management Course is like sitting in Al Unser Jr and Gary Ellis’ office for an hour each week. That’s powerful networking!
  7. Create a specific resume for the racing industry. When you take our 8-week online Motorsports Management Course we will professionally rewrite your resume and add your new references including Al Unser Jr and Gary Ellis.
