Twenty two years ago Miami Dolphins Executive Vice President of Football Operations Mike Tannenbaum was a personnel intern with the New Orleans Saints, getting his feet wet in the industry as he completed his law degree at Tulane. Just over a decade later, he was General Manager of the New York Jets and today he runs the entire football operation of the Miami Dolphins.
At the upcoming Sports Management Worldwide NFL Combine Career Conference, March 2nd-4th in Indianapolis, IN, Tannebaum will discuss his personal ascension in the sport, his theories on team development and provide advice on starting a career in football.
Inspired by the 1980s dominance of Bill Walsh’s San Francisco 49ers, Tannenbaum has put his signature and style to work within the Dolphins, focusing on the operational philosophy of the organization. In just over two years in Miami he has been instrumental in overhauling the roster, developing a sports performance department and a revamped player wellness program.
“I want to build an organization with people who are selfless, who are willing to sacrifice part of what is in their own best interest for the greater good of the organization. There is nothing like winning,” says the University of Massachusetts graduate.
“Football a microcosm of life. People have such disparate backgrounds yet we’re all here because the one commonality we all have in this organization, which is, we’re intoxicated by winning.”
The opportunity to learn first-hand from someone with as much operational experience as Mike Tannebaum is a rare opportunity.
